Restaurant-Style Dal Tadka

Let's make my Dal Tadka!

Begin by chopping the onion,


and grating the ginger.


Rinse and drain the lentils.

Heat coconut oil in a deep frying pan and add onions with a pinch of salt,

garlic, ginger and serrano pepper,

and the spices.

Deglaze the pan with water, scraping up any browned bits.

Add lentils, salt, and pepper and stir to combine. Cover and let simmer for 30 minutes.

and the cilantro.

Uncover and add in the diced tomatoes,

Make the Tadka.

Heat some oil up in a small skillet.

Add the mustard seeds,

cumin seeds,

curry leaves and dried red chile peppers.

Pour the Tadka over the Dal, stir to incorporate, and enjoy!
