    Last Month’s Winner

The winner of the April 2023 RPL Recipe Club is…. Marianna Shaknazaryan!

April’s recipe was Lemon Asparagus Pasta. Here was Marianna’s review:

Zesty, briny, peppery, delicious. I love a pick-your-own-adventure pasta, and cooking this I found the more herbs, capers, and fixings, the better! An elevated version of a weeknight staple in my kitchen, and something I’ll definitely be making again and again.

Congratulations, Marianna, and thank you to everyone who entered April’s contest. I had so much fun seeing all of your entries and I’m already looking forward to this month’s contest.

    May 2023 Recipe: Homemade Hummus!

I rarely say this, but this month’s recipe should come with a warning.

Because once you try homemade hummus, you may never want to buy the store-bought stuff ever again.

plate of creamy hummus with olive oil and herbs with pita bread

Hummus is a pretty much perfect food. Want to jazz up a salad or grain bowl? Make some hummus. Tired of the same old sandwich spreads? Make some hummus. Need a dip to snack on when friends are coming over? Make some hummus.

Note: Please feel free to make my homemade hummus recipe or my beet hummus recipe. We’ll accept entries for either recipe (though you don’t need to make both and you won’t get double credit if you do).

The blog posts have full written (and video) instructions, tips for making these recipes, and ingredient substitutions, so be sure to check them out!

May 2023 Prize: 14-Cup Food Processor from Cuisinart

This month, we’re delighted to give away a 14-Cup Food Processor from Cuisinart! (Affiliate link).

May 2023 Recipe Club Prize poster.

A great food processor like this one is a game-changer for making dips, pesto, sauces, salsa, nut butters and more. I love using the slicing blade to shred veggies for quick salads – I don’t know why but sometimes veggies are just easier and more fun to eat when they’re shredded.

This is actually the exact model that I own (the same one I use to make hummus in).

Already have a food processor you love? You can always opt to receive this Staub Braiser Pan (affiliate link) instead. Perfect for making my chickpea tagine recipe!

A note for international readers: Due to the exorbitant cost of international shipping, we can only ship the above prize within the 48 contiguous United States. However, you can still enter to win if you live elsewhere. If your entry is selected as the winner, we’ll send you a payment of $150 in lieu of the prize. Payment will be sent via PayPal.

    Other important details and FAQ

Can I make modifications to the recipe and still enter?

Absolutely! But your entry won’t count if you use any kind of animal product – Rainbow Plant Life is a vegan blog, after all!

How old do I need to be to participate?

You must be at least 18 years old to participate.

I don’t live in the United States. Can I still enter?

Yes! You can still enter the monthly contest, with a caveat.

We love hummus, and it was a lot of fun to make it at home. My sons and their friends devoured it and really enjoyed a delicious and healthy snack. The recipe was simple to follow, and I know we will make it many more times to come. It beat any store-bought hummus we have tried, and since you can easily customize it for different flavor preferences, I think it’s a winner! Thanks so much for sharing it with us : ).

Very creamy and beautiful texture! I paired it with warmed naan and next time will toast pine nuts! Like the video suggested, I should have added more lemon and maybe more garlic!

Nisha’s homemade hummus recipe was creamy, versatile and unlike anything you could purchase in a store. Using dried chickpeas was the best way to go by far. Loved this recipe!

Better than any storebought hummus, easy to make and soooo delicious (cheaper too).
